If you attend an Alachua County high school football game and want to carry a bag, it’ll have to be a clear one, public school officials announced Wednesday.

The policy covers Citizens Field and district schools. Regular purses, backpacks, coolers, fanny packs, camera bags, computer cases, diaper bags and binocular cases are among the newly prohibited items, a school system news release issued Wednesday said.

The policy is part of the school district’s strategy to improve security in schools and at school-related activities, the news release said.

Fans who do turn up at a game carrying a prohibited bag will have to return it to their vehicle before entering a stadium, the release said.

High school students’ families have been alerted to the new policy through automated phone and email messages.
