How does the Crimson Tide use GPS technology to track player performance? Alabama is one of 55 American universities partnered with Catapult Sports.
Catapult is an Australian company, which launched in 2006 – utilizing beeper-sized GPS devices and Russian space-based satellites to measure over 250 different variables including player workload, acceleration, deceleration, directional changes and explosive movements. Alabama head athletic trainer Jeff Allen explains how his training staff uses the Catapult system to know whether or not a player is performing at his peak, help Coach Nick Saban structure practices, expedite the rehabilitation of injured players, and manage the potential extended seasons of the College Football Playoff.
