Surprisingly for the second year in a row, participation in 11 on 11 football has decreased in California.
Since 2015, participation in football has dropped by over 6,000 players. In spite of the recent decline, football still has remained the most played sport in the state by boys. Overall the state of California has hit an all-time high in sports participation which could mean players are opting for other offerings. “I don’t think it’s a concern but reflects concerns by parents and reflects a national trend in youth sports. Kids are still playing sports. They’re just playing other things.”
