Sam Harrell, 62, never thought he’d be back, in this office, coaching Ennis High (Texas) again. Eight years ago his MS — a disease which eats away at the nervous system — forced him to retire from coaching Ennis. His family calls his path back a miracle. All it involved was a stranger, the town he loved, a trip to Panama for stem cell treatment that isn’t yet FDA approved and more than a little faith.

Harrell, sitting in his office a couple weeks before he coaches Ennis’ season opener, knows how it all sounds.

“It’s a crazy journey,” he says.
