18 Drills Players Can Do While Social Distancing

We all know how to fill practice time with drills during a normal spring, but this spring is different with social distancing restrictions and limits on the number of players that can practice at a time.

Here’s a video of 18 drills players can be doing now — even with those restrictions in order. We explain the 18 drills under the video.

Here is a full breakdown of the drills.

1. Jump Around Eyes To Catch To Tuck l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 12 feet from your partner and turn your back to them, Then you will jump, turn around facing your partner, catch the ball with two hands, and tuck.

2. 180 Reaction Eyes To Catches l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 12 feet from your partner and turn your back to them, the thrower yells either left or right, you turn that way, lock your eyes on to the ball and catch with two hands.

3. Trunk Rotation Eyes To Catch To Tuck l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 6 feet from your partner with your back to them, twist your body so you’re looking back, lock the ball in with your eyes and catch with both hands then tuck.

4. Trunk Rotation Eyes To Catch l Sets/reps

How to perform: You will start 6 feet from your partner with your back to them, twist your body so you’re looking back, lock the ball in with your eyes and catch with both hands.

5. Side Shuffle l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 12 feet from your partner, the thrower yells either left or right, shuffle the way they pick and catch the ball with two hands.

6. Highest Point – Eyes To Catch l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 6 feet from your partner, They will throw the ball above your head about 1 foot, jump, at the highest point, lock in with your eyes, and catch the ball with two hands.

7. Backpedal Crossover Highest Point l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 6 feet from your partner, turn left or right, start lightly running while looking back at your partner, when they throw the ball jump, at the highest point, lock in with your eyes, and catch the ball with two hands.

8. Basket Catches Kickoff/Punt Returns l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 12 feet from your partner, they will throw the ball high like a punt then you will catch it with both arms like a basket.

9. Lateral Walk – Ball Taps l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 4 feet from your partner, while shuffling very slowly smack the ball to one another almost like a game of hot potato.

10 & 11. Lateral Ali Shuffle – Ball Taps l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 4 feet from your partner, while running in place and moving sideways smack the ball to one another almost like a game of hot potato.

12. Deceleration Beating The Drums Drill. l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 10 feet from your partner, you will run to a cone, chop your feet, break down while beating your arms like you’re hitting a drum, then turn catch the ball with two hands and tuck. (have three cones spread out about 6 feet from each other)

13. Deceleration Beating The Drums Drill l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 10 feet from your partner, you will run to a cone, chop your feet, break down while beating your arms like you’re hitting a drum, have your feet staggered then catch the ball with two hands. (have three cones spread out about 6 feet from each other)

14. Deceleration Beating The Drums Drill l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 10 feet from your partner, you will run to a cone, chop your feet, break down while beating your arms like you’re hitting a drum, turn and catch the ball with two hands. (have three cones spread out about 6 feet from each other)

15. Power Leg Plants. l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: Start by getting 6 cones, put them about 5 feet apart, lightly jog to the first one, and plant your feet like you’re going to juke someone.

16. Power Leg Plants l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: Start by getting 6 cones, put them about 5 feet apart, lightly jog to the first one and plant your inside foot like you’re going to juke someone, and continue for the rest of the cones.

17. Power Leg Plants To Burst To Explode l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: Start by getting 6 cones, put them about 7 feet apart, lightly jog to the first one and plant your inside foot like you’re going to juke someone, then continue, at the last cone plant your foot, run and have your partner throw you the ball

18. 3 Step Slant. l 2 Sets x 15-20 Seconds

How to perform: You will start 10 feet from your partner lined up at receiver, take a diagonal 3 steps, plant with your outside foot, cut in, and catch the ball with two hands.
